About us

Established in 2002, Interbrands was formerly known as Austria Tabak Malta. Before it was privatised in 2001, Austria Tabak Malta, was founded by the former Chev. Joseph Chetcuti in 1984 together with Austria Tabak International to manufacture Austria Tabak Cigarettes in Malta. The plant in the San Gwann Industrial Estate manufactured world popular cigarette brands such as Milde Sorte, Ronson, Memphis and Silk Cut. During later years, Austria Tabak Malta also started manufactured Marlboro cigarettes in the same plant after a successful exclusive agreement with Philip Morris International.

When Malta joined the EU in May 2004, the local cigarette manufacturing plant was ceased and all products were imported from Cyprus and Greece. Interbrands today fully owned and run by the Chetcuti family and still enjoys a strong relationship with Philip Morris distributing world renowned brands such as Marlboro, L&M, Marlboro Bright Leaf and Next. The company is also the sole agent of other tobacco brands such as Red Bull, Gizeh, Radford’s and Golden Blend’s.

Through its subsidiary, JCC Vending, it operates a network of cigarette vending machines. More recently, the company also has started trading in coffee products and beverage vending machines and is the exclusive agent for world renowned brands such as Covim, Ducale, RDL and Crane Solutions.Under another subsidiary, J&F, the company also manages and rents a number of billboard sites around the island.
